WHAT IS THE YAW RING

The yaw ring is an important component in the wind turbine, mainly used to realize the rotation of the wind turbine nacelle, so that it can adjust its direction according to the change of wind direction, thus maximizing the capture of wind energy. The structural features of the yaw ring include:

Location and connection: The yaw ring is usually mounted on top of the tower of a wind turbine, connecting the nacelle to the tower.  It drives the nacelle to rotate around the tower axis by cooperating with the yaw motor and reducer.

Dimensions and precision
: Yaw rings are usually between a few meters and a dozen meters in diameter, depending on the power and design requirements of the wind turbine. Manufacturing requirements are extremely high and the precision and flatness of the teeth must be ensured to ensure smoothness and reliability during long periods of operation.

Material and performance: Yaw rings are usually made of high-strength alloy steel and cast iron, which are heat-treated and surface-strengthened to improve their wear resistance and fatigue resistance. In addition, the surface of the yaw ring is usually treated with anti-corrosion treatment, such as plating and spraying, to extend the service life.

Function: The main function of the yaw ring is to act as a large sliding bearing, which drives the nacelle mechanism as a whole to rotate slowly by meshing with the output gear of the yaw reducer, in order to adjust the direction of the wind turbine blade.

The design and application of yaw rings is critical to the efficiency and stability of wind turbines, as well as ensuring reliable operation in harsh natural environments.
